Unlawful discrimination is never okay.

Discrimination occurs when an individual or a group of people are treated less favourably than others based on a protected characteristic such as age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership (in employment), pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief (including lack of belief), sex or gender, sexual orientation.  

Unlawful discrimination is contrary to the Equality Act 2010

Think 
  • What is discrimination? It might be useful to think about what constitutes unlawful discrimination.
Talk
  • To a friend . Talking things through with someone you trust can sometimes help
  • To a wellbeing advisor, or one of the range of advisors at the ICR to get a confidential third party perspective and help you shape your thoughts
  • To HR or Registry to discuss the ways in which the offending behaviour could be addressed, both formal and informal, including guidance on the relevant procedures. 
Report
  • You should call also call HR or Registry and,  if appropriate, the police direct if you feel in danger and/or require immediate response
  • Report and Support. Students and staff can report an incident using the ICR's Report and Support system. You can choose to do this anonymously or you can request support from an advisor in HR or Registry. If you choose to talk to an advisor they will be able to talk through the options and support available to you, in confidence.
  • ICR's  Procedure. These options may include making a formal complaint to the ICR  about a student or member of staff there are procedures which set out the steps you'll need to follow For staff and For students 
Get Support 
  • HR or Registry together with your manager, team leader or supervisor will be able to provide additional support
Take care of yourself. 

  • It’s important that you take care of yourself. If you’ve heard something distressing or if something is troubling you, the ICR's Employee Assistance Programme offers confidential help and is open to both students and staff.
